Ethereum Meetup in Johannesburg

By August 22, 2017 181 Comments

What’s been happening in the Ethereum community?

After the successful launch of the Cape Town casual Ethereum Meetups, we did the same series of Meetups in Johannesburg. Meetups were held every Tuesday for three weeks, but due to the size of the crowd, we will be sticking to bigger events for JHB.

We held our previous Meetup at Social on Main, in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The event was attended by a variety of individuals that ranged from developers to ICO investors and even project starters such as Shireen Ramjo. After Linum Labs gave a brief welcome, guests spent the rest of the evening networking with one another.

As our JHB Meetup community expands, we couldn’t be more excited to announce that we are planning another Meetup. Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who attends these Meetups and we are always eager to see new faces. It ultimately seems that we are getting the word out on our Ethereum events, as we currently have about 500 members on our online Meetup group!

Come Meet Up with us:

Our next Meetup is on the 23rd August in Rosebank, as promised. It is lining up to be a really interesting, educational and exciting evening.

The event has developed a talented line-up of expert individuals. This includes Peter Munnings from ConsenSys – who has brought a few members from the ConsenSys team with him. Peter has also spoken and presented at a number of our past Meetups. He believes in creating an infrastructure that allows anyone, anywhere to participate in the financial markets of the world. Philippe Carrel – head of Calypso partner programs and engagement – will also be gracing us with his presence.

Juan Llanos is known as an international thought leader in the anti-money laundering and regulatory compliance domains. Juan is a mentor and advisor at various crypto-currency and technology start-ups and will be joining our Meetup. He has been pioneering the development of compliance and risk management best practices for the money transfer industry and the emerging Bitcoin and Blockchain industries. He is the Senior Advisor to One World Identity, founder of startup fund and incubator Multiple Startups, and ConsenSys Enterprise’s FinTech & RegTech Lead. It is extremely exciting to have an opportunity to listen to his stories and experiences of working with digital identities.

Lastly, Vinay Mohan will present next on his recent work in Singapore, where he leads business development operations for ConsenSys. Prior to joining ConsenSys, he was part of the financial services consulting practices at Oracle and KPMG. He spent over a decade as a management consultant focusing on strategy design, technology assessment, change management and improvement projects. Vinay has delivered engagements for global banks, sovereign wealth funds, investment agencies, oil and gas companies and Government organisations.

With such brilliant and skilled guests, we can hardly contain our excitement for this Meetup!

What to look out for?

These events are about meeting other members of the Ethereum community, discussing ideas and learning about the constantly evolving technology. Our Meetups are suitable for all levels of understanding from beginners through to experts.
